چکیده

Abstract Introduction The function of sleep in memory consolidation has been well established. Hippocampal CA1 and CA3 subregions are thought to be particularly important this process. current working hypothesis postulates that episodic traces captured during waking hours replayed the hippocampal CA1-CA3 areas transferred cortex for long-term storage sleep. Even though sensory spatial information from higher-order cortical such as entorhinal primarily enters hippocampus via dentate gyrus (DG), structure always considered “silent partner” consolidation. Whether how DG toward downstream is less known. Methods Here, we used fiber photometry, two-photon calcium imaging, EEG recording examine activity Results Strikingly, found cells even more active than wakefulness slowly oscillates non-REM (NREM) epochs. Furthermore, also cycles coinciding with microarousals tightly locked brief serotonin (5-HT) release NREM Pharmacological blockade 5-HT1a receptors abolished oscillations DG. genetic knockdown leads impairment contextual tasks. Conclusion Together, our results indicate ultra-slow driven by fluctuations they required Support (if any)

Extracellular calcium fluctuations and intracellular potentials in the cortex during the slow sleep oscillation.

During slow wave sleep the main activity of cortical neurons consists of synchronous and rhythmic alternations of the membrane potential between depolarized and hyperpolarized values. The latter are long-lasting (200-600 ms) periods of silence. The mechanisms responsible for this periodical interruption of cortical network activity are unknown. Here we report a decrease of approximately 20% in ...

What drives slow wave activity during early non-REM sleep: Learning during prior wake or effort?

What is the function of sleep in humans? One claim is that sleep consolidates learning. Slow wave activity (SWA), i.e. slow oscillations of frequency < 4 Hz, has been observed in electroencephalograms (EEG) during sleep; it increases with prior wakefulness and decreases with sleep. Studies have claimed that increase in SWA in specific regions of the sleeping brain is correlated with overnight i...

Slow kinetics of miniature IPSCs during early postnatal development in granule cells of the dentate gyrus.

Whole-cell patch-clamp recordings were used to investigate the properties of GABAA receptor-mediated postsynaptic currents during development in dentate gyrus granule cells from neonatal [postnatal day 0 (P0)] to adult rats in brain slices. The frequency of miniature IPSCs (mIPSCs) was low at birth and increased progressively with age. The mIPSCs of all ages could be satisfactorily fitted with ...

Opioid modulation of recurrent excitation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus.

kappa opioid receptor activation inhibits granule cell-mediated excitatory neurotransmission in the hippocampal formation via a decrease in glutamate release from both perforant path and mossy fiber terminals. We now report a third, anatomically and pharmacologically distinct site of such kappa opioid inhibition within the hippocampus. Granule cell population responses to selective stimulation ...

the effect of e-64 on the developmental competence of sheep cocs during in vitro maturation

in the present study, the effect of e-64 at different concentrations (0.5, 1, 5 and 10 µm) added to (1) the ivm medium on oocyte nuclear maturation and developmental competence of ovine oocytes, and (2) to the ivc medium on embryonic development of ovine embryos were investigated.
